Ordering Research Peptides Internationally: Shipping, Customs and Delivery

Lyophilized research peptides ship at ambient temperature by international courier, and that is not a compromise — dry powder has no aqueous chemistry to accelerate, so a few days in a courier network is not a stability problem. Cold storage matters on arrival, not in transit.

Why room-temperature transit is fine

Almost every degradation route available to a peptide — hydrolysis, deamidation, aspartate isomerisation, aggregation, microbial growth — needs water or molecular mobility. Freeze-drying removes both. That is the entire reason research material is supplied as powder rather than in solution, and it is what makes ordinary courier shipping viable. The chemistry is covered in lyophilized vs solution peptides.

The corollary matters more than the shipping question: the stability clock starts at reconstitution, not at delivery. See peptide storage and stability.

Customs, duties and import rules

International parcels can be assessed for duty or import VAT by the destination country, and those charges are set by the importing country, not by the sender. Two things are worth knowing before ordering:

  • Rules differ by country. Research chemicals are treated differently in different jurisdictions, and some compounds are controlled in some countries and not others. Checking your own country's import rules for the specific compound before ordering is the buyer's responsibility, not something a supplier can determine for you.
  • Declarations describe what is being sent. Material supplied for laboratory research is labelled and declared as such. It is not a medicine and is not declared as one.

What to check on arrival

  1. Seal integrity. The vial stopper and crimp should be intact and unpunctured.
  2. Lot number. It should match the batch documentation on the product page. A COA that cannot be matched to the vial in your hand is not verifiable — see how to read a COA.
  3. Appearance. A white to off-white cake or powder is normal, and so is a thin film or loose powder after transit — cake appearance is not a purity indicator. One exception: GHK-Cu should be blue, because the colour comes from the copper complex.
  4. Move it to cold storage. Lyophilized powder belongs at −20 °C once it arrives.

Order it with its solvent

Dry material needs a solvent before it is usable. Ordering bacteriostatic water in the same order avoids a second shipment and, in most cases, pushes the order over the free-shipping threshold. Concentration arithmetic is in peptide concentration math.
