Bacteriostatic Water 20mL - Sterile Mixing Solution
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. The preservative suppresses bacterial growth between entries, which is what allows one vial to be accessed repeatedly rather than discarded after a single use. It is the standard solvent for reconstituting lyophilized research peptides.

How it differs from sterile water and WFI
Sterile water and Water for Injection contain no preservative and are single-use: once entered, the remainder is discarded. Bacteriostatic water is the choice when a reconstituted vial will be entered more than once. Full comparison in bacteriostatic water vs sterile water vs WFI.
Concentration is arithmetic
The concentration of a reconstituted vial is set entirely by the mass in the vial and the volume added: concentration (mg/mL) = mass (mg) ÷ volume (mL). A 100 mg peptide vial reconstituted with 2 mL gives 50 mg/mL; the same vial with 5 mL gives 20 mg/mL. Step-by-step procedure in the reconstitution guide.
Handling
- Wipe the stopper with an alcohol wipe before each entry and use a fresh needle.
- Keep the number of entries low — the preservative inhibits growth, it does not rescue a contaminated vial.
- Store at room temperature, away from direct light.
- A multi-entry window of up to 28 days after first entry is the figure commonly stated for bacteriostatic water.
