SS-31, also known as elamipretide, is a synthetic tetrapeptide with an alternating aromatic-cationic motif that gives it affinity for cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It contains two non-standard residues — D-arginine and 2,6-dimethyltyrosine — which is why it resists ordinary peptidase cleavage.

Storage and handling
